The U.S. Air Force announced that the Boeing 747-8 has been selected as the next presidential aircraft, commonly known as Air Force One.
The decision to purchase the aircraft was not through a full and open competition but rather through a Determinations and Findings document.
Col. Amy McCain, the Presidential Aircraft Recapitalization (PAR) program manager, says the decision is not a contract award to procure 747-8.
“We still need to finalize the overall acquisition strategy and conduct risk-reduction activities with Boeing to inform the engineering and manufacturing development contract negotiations that will define the capabilities and cost.”
