USN worried that safety checks on H-53 helicopters not carried out properly

The U.S. Navy is concern that safety checks carried out on CH-53E and MH-53E helicopters were not properly done.

The checks on bad wiring and faulty fuel lines were mandated after the fatal crash of a MH-53E on Jan. 8, 2014. Bad wiring had ignited fuel lines during the accident. However, the Navy discovered that those checks were not properly done. A spot check on 28 CH-53Es found that 20 had bad fuel lines or wiring.
