The U.S. Marine Corps faces a shortage of aircraft with nearly one in every five aircraft in its inventory unable to fly.

Lt. Gen. Jon Davis, the deputy commandant of the Marine Corps for Aviation, told Senators that the bulk of the problem was due to delays in getting maintenance.
Davis said the problem in the Corps is most prevalent with F/A-18 Hornets. Sequestration left depots understaffed and also made it tough to buy spare parts for aircraft.
