Finnish Defense Minister Carl Haglund has refuted a report from Swedish newspaper Dagens Industri saying that the Saab Gripen is a strong candidate to replace Finland’s F/A-18s.

“Swedish fighter jets don’t have special status when Finland ponders the Hornet’s successor,” Minister for Defence Carl Haglund responded to an e-mail to STT.

Quite obviously he had to say that. But it would be quite stupid of Finland to pay more for less proven aircraft such as the F-35 when the Gripen is right there, cheaper and with better availability.
