As part of the KC-46 development program, the aerial tanker had to be subjected to a series of weapons survivability test. The U.S. Navy’s Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division’s Weapons Survivability Laboratory was tasked with the assignment.

For the first time, a Live Fire Test and Evaluation (LFT&E) missile was fired at the KC-46 test article to assess the damage done.
Besides the missile, engineers fired live cannon rounds into the pylon to collect valuable data.
