The U.S. Navy has verified the ability of the SM-6 interceptor to engage incoming supersonic targets from over-the-horizon.

During the test, the crew of USS Desert Ship (LLS-1) launched the interceptor after getting targeting information from remote sensors – such as ships or airborne assets.
This mission was the next in a test series for Naval Integrated Fire Control – Counter Air (NIFC-CA) program.
