Tomahawk proves it can do battle damage assessment, loiter and then attack another target

In a test with USS Gridley (DDG 101), a Tomahawk Block IV cruise missile was fired from the ship and the cruise missile flew over a designated point and captured imagery using its on board camera.

The simulated battle damage assessment data was then transmitted back to land via the missiles’ two-way UHF SATCOM datalink. The missile then entered a loiter pattern to await further instructions.

U.S. Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain then took control and gave the missile a new target at the range at San Nicolas Island. The missile performed a vertical dive and struck the designated target.
