Russia has successfully launched the first replacement satellite for the Oko missile defense early warning satellite constellation.

EKS-1 was lifted into space orbit by a Soyuz 2-1B rocket from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in northern Russia on Nov. 17. The satellite eventually will be placed in the Tundra orbit.
