Fernando Alonso, head of the military aircraft division of Airbus Defence and Space, said in an interview that his company is keen to offer surveillance and reconnaissance upgrades to its A400M and A330 MRTT.

Alonso argued that the concept is faster to implement than building a specialized aircraft from scratch.
“Can we not put some other equipment in, sensors, intelligence gathering, early warning, so that while the (A330) is waiting to refuel it can be doing a lot of other things?” Alonso said.
