Another fatal U.S. Army helicopter crash; active-duty units across the country to ground aircraft

A AH-64D from the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) crashed at approximately 7 p.m. Dec. 2 at approximately 12 miles south of Fort Campbell.

Both crew members aboard the attack helicopter did not survive the crash, the press release from Fort Campbell said.

This was the third fatal U.S. Army helicopter accident in a month and the second time involving a AH-64. An Apache also went down in South Korea on Nov. 23.

This prompted Gen. Robert Abrams, head of U.S. Army Forces Command, to order all active-duty units across the country to ground their aircraft for the next five days and review safety and training procedures.
