The annual Blackened Canteen ceremony took place on Dec. 6 at the USS Arizona Memorial, Hawaii.

This year, retired U.S. Air Force Colonel Jack DeTour and former Imperial Japanese Navy Zero pilot Shiro Wakita poured bourbon whiskey into the watery grave of the battleship.
The canteen used to pour the whiskey was recovered from a B-29 bomber that was destroyed after colliding with another B-29 bomber over Shizuoka, Japan, in 1945.
