U.S. Navy to inactivate squadron dedicated to Special Operations support

HSC-84, based in Norfolk, will be inactivated in March, the U.S. Navy has decided. The unit is one of two helicopter squadrons in the sailing branch that are dedicated to Special Operations support as a primary role.

HSC-85 in San Diego is unaffected. As both units are part of the Navy Reserve, some personnel from HSC-84 might not be able uproot themselves to take up positions on the West Coast.
