Software bug forcing F-35A pilots to restart AESA radar in flight

The director of the U.S. Air Force’s F-35 integration office at the Pentagon told IHS Jane’s that a software bug is interfering with the 3i software on F-35A. Pilots are forced to restart the AESA radar while in flight.

“What would happen is they’d get a signal that says either a radar degrade or a radar fail -something that would force us to restart the radar,” Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Harrigian said.

The manufacturer has written a new software to patch the bug, which has potential to derail plans to achieve initial operational capability (IOC) for the F-35A later this year.
