According to The Sunday Standard, the Indian Army has decided not to procure the indigenous Akash surface-to-air missile and will buy a new missile from abroad.

In a reply to the newspaper, the Army said the “short-range surface-to-air missile (SRSAM) system is technologically and operationally superior to the Akash missile system.”
The cost of the new missile system is said to be 70 percent of the Akash missile system.
