For sometime Huntington Ingalls Industries has been keen to turn the San Antonio-class LPD into a missile defense ship and now Lockheed Martin has decided to jump on the bandwagon.

A company executive in charge of the Aegis program told Washington Business Journal that it “makes a lot of sense” to have the air defense radar installed on the next LPD that Huntington Ingalls Industries has been contracted to build.
