The Royal Thai Navy and the U.S. Navy carried the bilateral Exercise Guardian Sea in the Andaman Sea May 23-27 and a senior RTN officer said his service’s S-70B anti-submarine helicopter did very well in the exercise.

Rear Adm. Vasinsan Chantavarin, whose in charge of rotary-wing assets in the RTN, said Thai Navy crews took only 14:28 minutes to load torpedos onto the helicopters while aboard HTMS Chakri Naruebet and the air crews had a “70 to 80% success rate” in detecting the submarine, which was the USS San Francisco.
