The warbird at Misawa Aviation and Science Museum is one of three survivors worldwide. It was recovered from the bottom of Lake Towadako four years ago.
The Important Aviation Heritage is endorsed by the Japan Aeronautic Association (JAA) to recognize historic and cultural aviation-related artifacts from Japan.
The Ki-54 is the ninth artifact to earn this recognition and a ceremony will be held on Jul. 2 to present the certification.
