Republic of China Navy held a press conference this morning on the accidental firing of a live Hsiung Feng 3 supersonic anti-ship missile from ROCS Jin Chiang.
Navy chief-of-staff Mei Chia Shu says the crew was carrying out an equipment check and the drill required the navy personnel to simulate hitting a target 40nm away and at a bearing of 310°. He stressed that investigators will look into whether the crew had followed proper procedures during the simulation.
Mei added that a S-70 naval helicopter was dispatched to follow the flight path of the missile to locate for the wreckage and six ships are underway to look for the missile.
