France is required to provide 50 percent offsets to India as part of the deal to sell 36 Rafale fighters to the Indian Air Force. Paris is hoping to take over and complete the devlopment of India’s Kaveri turbofan engine to meet some of those offset requirements.

Economic Times reported that the engine manufacturer of Rafale, Safran, will take over the development and complete the job. Its engineers predicted that the Kaveri needs 25-30 percent more research to see it to completion.
The engine will done be able to refit into the Tejas Mk 1A.
