A British Army Thales Watchkeeper unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) on finals to land at ParcAberporth airfield in Wales on Oct. 16, 2014 crashed instead due to a software bug that activated the drone’s landing procedures prematurely.

In his report, director general of the Defence Safety Authority, Air Marshal Dick Garwood, said the crash showed the vehicle management system computer (VMSC) software was “not fit for purpose”.
