China has dismiss the chief designer of J-20

On the eve of the first public outing of the Chengdu J-20 stealth fighter, Chinese internet forums disclosed that the aircraft’s chief designer Yang Wei has been dismissed from his post.

  2. Hello Alert5, I think you may have either misread the original forum discussions, or you have been lured in by Duowei’s narrative stance.

First of all, it is important to point out that Duowei (the news site you link to) is a vehemently anti-Chinese, Chinese language news tabloid with headquarters outside of China. Their track record for reporting news on China (including military matters) is very poor, andthey often make up news from limited rumours or indicators, and very few people take them seriously. Other similarly non-credible “news” sites include their affiliate Mingjing and NTDTV, or Apple Daily. So it may be worthwhile checking your sources more carefully and making sure they have a good track record, and to not interpret any Chinese language site as being credible.
Remember, earlier this year there was “news” that Lin Zuoming Deputy Director at AVIC was “implicated in spying” which your site also reported on at the time (http://alert5.com/2016/05/26/avic-official-goes-missing/), but the original “news” was from the anti-China tabloid Apple Daily, and really he was just out of work due to health issues and his name and status etc is still listed on the AVIC website (http://www.avic.com/cn/gxwm/dsczc/index.shtml). So it is wise to keep in mind there are lots of Chinese language news sites who love to take an occurrence and spin it in a way to make China look in the worst way possible.

Second, the actual situation seems to be that Yang Wei has not been “dismissed” from his position, but rather moved. There is some brief consideration whether he was implicated in some sort of espionage case regarding AVIC but that was much earlier in the year in May, but that was probably just more tabloid news from the Lin Zuoming “case” back then. Instead, it appears that Yang Wei has changed position from “Deputy Chief Engineer of AVIC” to “Deputy Director of Technology Committee of AVIC” (supposedly he’s changed positions from”中航工业副总工程师” to “中航工业科技委副主任”) which may well be a promotion by the sounds of it. We discussed it at a SDF thread, if you would care to learn more about it (https://www.sinodefenceforum.com/j-20-5th-gen-fighter-thread-v.t7303/page-288#post-419505). AVIC is undergoing a bit of restructuring over the last year or so, so expect to see some people change positions, and also remain vigilant that foreign based Chinese language tabloids and media might try to spin it as controversial or even make up reasons like espionage.

    Thanks,
    Blitzo

  3. Actually sorry my mistake, your site reported on Guo Enming back in May rather than Lin Zuoming (my faulty memory), Lin Zuoming was a separate case of rumour mongering (http://m.dwnews.com/china/news/2016-04-25/59734678.html).

However, the point remains that at the time all the news outlets reporting on it were from anti-China news outlets like Epoch Times, Apple Daily, NTDTV etc, whose credentials were dubious and poor, and substantial doubt remains to the Guo Enming case, the previously debunked Lin Zuoming case, and just as much doubt should be maintained for Yang Wei now.

  4. He was not fired, he was promoted … Reportedly he became “deputy director of the Technology Committee of AVIC” … but I’m not sure about the translation

  5. @Sanjau .So you are saying that Indiots are so stupid that they can’t even copy the design of toilets?
