Remember the FrankenHornet from the Finnish Air Force? Well, the Israeli Air Force has carried out its own Frankenstein conversion of a F-15 Eagle.
The twin-seater had encountered a bird strike after taking off from Tel-Nof air base in 2011. The emergency landing severely damaged the rear section of the aircraft.
Engineers from the Aerial Maintenance Unit managed to remove the forward fuselage section of the damaged twin-seater and fit it to a single seat F-15 that has been in storage for twenty years.
The converted aircraft recently made its first flight with Lt. Col. Rotem at the controls. Ironically, he was also the mishap pilot during the bird strike.
