Indian scientists were forced to destroy a Nirbhay cruise missile during the type’s four test attempt, less than four minutes after launch.
The missile was successfully launched from its mobile launcher at about 11.46 a.m. on Dec. 21. It was suppose to fly for nearly one hour but the weapon veered off course shortly after the launch.
An anonymous source said the engine lost thrust in flight and the flight controls were not working properly as well.
A self-destruct command was therefore issued to terminate the flight.
