Flight Global says the U.S. Navy is proceeding with replacing the EP-3E signals reconnaissance aircraft by having the MQ-4C taking over the role of collecting electronic signals.

Sean Burke, NAVAIR’s Triton program manager, said the service recently in August got approval to kick-start a 18-month process to install a signals intelligence payload on the Triton.
MQ-4Cs with low- and high-band signals receivers are expected to reach initial operational capability in 2021.
