Berlin is close to deciding on procuring a new short-range air defense system, two sources told Reuters.

Contenders are the NASAMS (Norwegian Advanced Surface to Air Missile System) and a surface-launch variant of the IRIS-T.
Sources added that Germany could allocate around 20 million euros this year to kick off the program. A winner is expected to be selected in 2018.
