Times of India reports that New Delhi has draw lessons from its Su-30MKI program and now wants to negotiate for a full transfer of technology for the fifth-generation fighter aircraft (FGFA) with Russia.

So far, Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) has merely assembled Su-30MKIs from kits delivered by Russia. And each jet costs more than those assembled by Sukhoi.
Therefore, India now wants access to the source codes for the FGFA so that it can perform upgrades locally and the development work done should be useful in the indigenous advanced medium combat aircraft (AMCA) program.
