Kyodo News says Tokyo is considering getting the American Tomahawk cruise missile for its destroyers.

The missiles will allow Japan to strike North Korea’s missile bases from afar.
The government is giving the proposal full consideration.
It is relevant and suitable for Japan to obtain Tomahawks, since their top tier warship have Mk-41 VLS as standard weapon fits. They will now have “Offensive” land attack capability AND the anti-ship version which they call “Maritime Strike Tomahawk (MST)” which could compliment its existing Type 90 Ship-to-Ship Missile which has a shorter range.
