Prime Minister Boiko Borissov said on May 24 that the Russian jets could remain in service for another 11 years if their engines are overhauled.
An interim government had announced in April that the Saab Gripen is deemed as the most suitable replacement for the air force.
Borissov made it clear that getting two new patrol vessels and 250 armored vehicles are his top priorities.
