Thunderbird F-16D flips upside down during landing incident in Dayton

A F-16D assigned to the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds aerobatic team had a mishap while landing at Dayton International Airport on Jun. 23.

Pilot, Capt. Erik Gonsalves, was bringing aircraft maintainer, TSgt. Kenneth Cordova, on a familiarization flight during the incident.

Both were said to have been trapped in the aircraft for nearly two hours before being rescued. Both are said to be in good condition.

The team has decided to cancel its performance at Vectren Dayton Air Show for today and will evaluate whether to fly on Jun. 25.
