The Royal Australian Air Force has retired its Heron unmanned aerial vehicle. The last flight was from RAAF Base Tindal during Exercise Diamond Storm on Jun. 23.
No. 5 Flight is set to be disbanded at the end of the year, says the press release.
Australia will acquire a follow-on capability under Project AIR 7003. It will deliver an armed medium altitude long endurance after 2020.
To retain and further develop knowledge and experience, Australia will be sending its personnel to U.S. to operate on the MQ-9.
