Capt. Mark Johnson, Naval Air Systems Command PMA-280 program manager, told USNI News that the U.S. Navy is close to signing a deal to turn a number of Tomahawks into anti-ship cruise missiles.

The upgrade will take place when the Navy sends its Tomahawks back to Raytheon for recertification. A company executive said the multi-mode seeker for the anti-ship role will likely be a mix of passive and active sensors.
The Maritime Strike Tomahawk variant will likely enter service in the early 2020s.
