U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command’s latest airborne mine detection system has achieved Initial Operational Capability, the service announced on Oct. 10.
The AN/DVS-1 Coastal Battlefield Reconnaissance and Analysis (COBRA) system detects and localizes minefields and obstacles when flown over a beach zone area.
Flown on the MQ-8, the Block I version of COBRA has completed the first phase of initial operational test and evaluation (IOT&E). It will keep Sailors and Marines out of harm’s way on a possible landing zone.
