A senior officer with the Finnish Air Force says the service will soon start a search for a new medium-range air defense missile system that has twice the range of the NASAMS.

The new system will fill the gap of the 9K37 Buk M1 system that Finland retired. A request for information is expected to be release next month.
Colonel Ari Grönroos added that it does not necessary mean Finland will acquire the AMRAAM-ER to fulfill the requirement. Nor does he sees a requirement for the new system to have anti-ballistic missile capability.
