Several media outlets in Japan are reporting that defense officials are mulling whether to deploy surface-to-ship missiles on Okinawa island.

Although there are plans to deploy the missiles on Miyako island, those weapons does not have the range to cover the Miyako Strait – the waterway between Miyako and Okinawa islands. Chinese warships have been transiting the strait over the past few years.
