Botswana says it cannot afford the $1.7 billion required to buy a fleet of Saab Gripen fighters and will look for cheaper alternatives instead.
“Nothing has been finalised yet. In fact, nothing much has been done (with regards to the Gripen deal). We are still looking for better and affordable deals,” Defence and Security minister Shaw Kgathi told the Botswana Gazette.
