Nikkei reported on Aug. 20 that Japan is in talks with France and Germany over the transfer of technology from the Kawasaki P1 maritime patrol aircraft.

Germany and France are developing a new maritime patrol aircraft to replace the P-3C and Atlantique 2. The program was launched earlier this year. Japan is hoping to contribute know-how and parts to the program.
