An exclusive report by Up Media says Taiwan has obtained two Honeywell TPE331 turboprop engines to fit inside their indigenous Teng Yu UAV.
The report also shed light on the current power plant, which is a reverse engineered copy of the TPE331 that Taiwan developed using second-hand parts on the commercial market.
However, the island was not able to churn out similar performance with its own power plant. In order to meet the requirements of the Air Force, a decision was made to import the TPE331 engine.
The new aircraft will have revised air intake and wings. It will make its first public appearance during the Taipei Aerospace & Defense Technology Exhibition in August.
