Saab has announced that the Gripen E fighter will not be heading to Payerne, Switzerland for flight tests this month.
Switzerland has requested that all aircraft participating in the trials for its new fighter purchase be operational in 2019. Saab says the Gripen E will only be operational years before delivery to Switzerland. Its offer to bring a Gripen C along for the flight tests was rejected by the Swiss.
The Swedish aerospace company said its offer to deliver “at least 40 Gripen E fighter aircraft on time, meeting requirements and within planned budget” still stands.
