Testing of the Gremlins air-recoverable unmanned air vehicles has been disrupted after an earthquake on Jul. 5 damaged the flight termination system at the test range.
The system is required in case any flight tests went awry and requires termination.
What Dynetics will now do is to release the drone from a C-130 and ground recover it. A Learjet will be used to test the Gremlins’ avionics during a simulated air recovery.
First in-flight recovery is expected to be in the Spring of 2020.
