Up Media reports that Taiwan is seeking to improve the Tien Chien 1 short-range air-to-air missile by improving its off boresight and kinematic capabilities.

The new missile, dubbed Tien Chien 3, will be similar to the American AIM-9X. It will also have lock-on after launch (LOAL) capability.
However, the Air Force is skeptical of the proposal by National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology as the IDF fighter lacks helmet-mounted displays to make LOAL work.
