CVN-81 to be named after Messman Third Class Doris Miller

The United States Navy has confirmed to USNI News that the fourth Ford-class carrier (CVN-81) will be named after Pearl Harbor hero Doris Miller.

Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly is expected to make the official announcement on Jan. 20.

Miller will be the first enlisted sailor and African American to have an aircraft carrier to be named after.
