81st Fighter Squadron will train Nigerians to fly A-29

Moody Air Force Base announced on Apr. 16 that the 81st Fighter Squadron will train members of the Nigerian Air Force to fly and maintain the A-29.

The 81st Fighter Squadron received the aircraft to help continue the Afghan light air support training mission, which ultimately provides Afghan pilots with the capabilities of finding, tracking, and attacking targets either on their own or in support of ground forces. Approximately 100 additional personnel will be headed to Moody to support the mission.

Nigeria has ordered 12 A-29s. The aircraft will start to arrive at Moody in the summer and the unit is expected to be operational by winter 2021.
