A U.S. Navy F/A-18F, BuNo 166464, that has sat idle at NAS Lemoore for more than 8 years has flown again on Apr. 19.

This was made possible due to the efforts by the Naval Aviation Maintenance Center for Excellence (NAMCE), Lemoore.
This detachment’s goal is to take long-term down aircraft and regenerate them into serviceable planes again. This was done in an air-conditioned makeshift hangar in a small corner of Lemoore’s flight line.
Initially, it took maintainers’ an average of 183 days rebuild one Super Hornet. Since, last year, the average time has been cut to 67 days.
