The Africa Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has issued a statement confirming that a Embraer EMB-120RT was shot down by a Ethiopian Zu-23 anti-aircraft gun on May 4 at Bardale airstrip in Somalia.
The aircraft was bringing medical supplies to the area and was approaching from the west into the airstrip when the Ethiopian troops mistaken it as a suicide plane and shot it down. The usual approach into the airstrip is from the east. All six people on board were killed.
