New naval JL-9 has flown, spots Su-25 style wingtip speed brakes but no tailhook

Guizhou Aviation Industry Import/Export Company (GAIEC) has announced that its new JL-9 variant for the People’s Liberation Army Naval Air Force (PLANAF) has flown.

The jet now has a longer wingspan with the speed brakes located at the wingtips. This is similar to the Su-25UTG which the Russian Navy uses for training on board Admiral Kuznetsov.

The drag chute has been confirmed to been removed as well.
