First Red Flag Alaska outing for Hill AFB F-35s

The 4th Fighter Squadron is representing Hill Air Force Base’s 388th and Reserve 419th Fighter Wings at Red Flag Alaska 20-3 that kicks off Aug. 1.

A formation of F-35 Lightning IIs from the 388th and 419th Fighter Wings stationed at Hill Air Force Base perform aerial maneuvers during a combat power exercise over Utah Test and Training Range, Nov. 19, 2018. The exercise aims to confirm their ability to quickly employ a large force of jets against air and ground targets, and demonstrate the readiness and lethality of the F-35A. As the first combat-ready F-35 unit in the Air Force, the 388th and 419th FW are ready to deploy anywhere in the world at a moment’s notice. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. Cory D. Payne)

This will be the first time the F-35 assigned to Hill is participating at the air combat training exercise. 12 aircraft along with nearly 200 airmen are making the trip to Eielson Air Force Base.

They will stay for an additional week after the exercise ends to conduct air-to-air combat training with F-22s and F-16s in smaller, more limited scenarios.

This training opportunity will also allow the 4th FS to integrate with F-35As from 354th Fighter Wing at Eielson.
