VMFA-242 established as second F-35B squadron at MCAS Iwakuni

A change of command and re-designation of VMFA(AW)-242 took place at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan on Oct. 16. With the re-designation as VMFA-242, the Marine Aircraft Group 12 will now have a second F-35B squadron at the base.

JASDF F-35As train with USS America

USS America (LHA 6) participated in advanced combined operations with F-35As from Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) in the Pacific Ocean on Oct. 20.

PACIFIC OCEAN (Oct. 20, 2020) F-35 Lightning II aircraft assigned to the Japan Air Self Defense Force conduct integrated air operations with the forward-deployed amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6). America, lead ship of the America Amphibious Ready Group and assigned to Amphibious Squadron 11, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
