The A-10 pilot who made a successful gear up landing at Moody Air Force Base on Apr. 7, 2020 has received the Air Combat Command Airmanship Award .
Capt. Taylor Bye, 75th Fighter Squadron pilot and chief of standardization and evaluation, was attempting to fire her GAU-8 cannon during a training mission when the cannon failed and blew off the canopy and prevented the landing gear from deploying.
But that did not prevent her from making a gear up landing at Moody Air Force Base with minimum damage to the aircraft.
