The U.S. Marine Corps has used it’s Navy/Marine Corps Expeditionary Ship Interdiction System (NMESIS) to attack a target ship more than 100 nautical miles away during a test in Hawaii.
The actual firing of the Naval Strike Missile was carried out by engineers from Marine Corps Systems Command as the NMESIS is not an operational system yet. Two missiles were launched during the test on Aug. 15.
Marines also took the opportunity during the Large Scale Exercise 21 to deploy the system using the C-130J and LCAC.
