According to the NHK, the United States is seeking permission from Tokyo to deploy seven MQ-9s at Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force’s Kanoya air base in Kagoshima Prefecture.
To maintain and operate the unmanned aircraft, around 100 American personnel will be stationed at Kanoya.
Officials from both sides will visit the base to inspect the facilities next month.
Asahi says the deployment is temporary and could commence as early as this spring.
